1000 MT CAPACITY ONION STORAGE COMPLEX IN NAJAFGARH


A new 1000 MT capacity onion storage complex has been constructed by the National Horticultural Research and Development foundation Ltd. at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ujwa, Najafgarh. The complex will be used for storage of onion from the coming season. Apart from storage this facility, built with the financial assistance of NAFED, will also be used to train farmers, traders and exporters in post-harvest handling of onion. Similar facilities have also been created with the financial assistance of NAFED at Indore in Madhya Pradesh and at Beldari Chak, Biharsharif and Sheikhpura in Bihar. Presently the total storage capacity of onion in the country is about 16 lakh tons, whereas the storage capacity for meeting the demand in lean period is required at a level of about 18 lakh tons.
