RAILWAYS ORGANISES SEMINAR ON THE OCCASION OF VIGILANCE AWARENESS WEEK

CVC CALLS FOR FIGHTING THE EVIL OF CORRUPTION

As part of ongoing Vigilance Awareness Week, the Ministry of Railways organised a seminar to highlight the significance of the Week. The Seminar was specially addressed by Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) Shri P. Shankar. The Chairman, Railway Board Shri I.I.M.S. Rana presided over the meeting.

In his speech, Shri P. Shankar called upon all to contribute with all their might to fight the evil of corruption and bring probity and transparency in public administration. Shri Shankar pointed out that there is a strong need to wake up to the dangers of corruption and there cannot be a better occasion to start the drive against corruption than the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhai Patel who represented best values in Indian traditions so far as governance was concerned. The main spirit behind the programme is to involve all the people so that the corruption is thrown out by the mass movement, he added. Emphasising the need to create awareness against corruption, Shri Shankar suggested that the right values should be inculcated in the family, in the school and college and in the organisation in which a person works.

In his address, Shri Rana gave a call to all railwaymen to bring transparency, honesty and devotion to duty so as to provide value-based service to our countrymen. He emphasised the need for vigilance in railway working to root out corruption from railways. Shri Shiv Kumar, Advisor, Vigilance and Chief Vigilance Officer of the Ministry of Railways apprised the participants about the action being taken to enhance awareness for vigilance amongst all Railwaymen and rail users.

On this occasion, Shri P. Shankar also released a souvenir titled ‘Chetna Aahwan’ brought out by the Vigilance Department of the Ministry of Railways. The souvenir contained thought provoking articles and anecdotes to sensitize the people about corruption and to generate awareness amongst railwaymen about the evil of corruption.

During the Vigilance Awareness Week 31st October - 6th November, Indian Railways is organising seminars, debates, essay competitions etc. all over the country to mark the occasion.
