ONE PERSON KILLED IN CHHAPRA TRAIN ACCIDENT

RESCUE AND RELIEF OPEATION IN FULL SWING

SIX RAILWAY EMPLOYEES SUSPENDED


One person was killed and 15 persons were injured when the 5210 Amritsar-Barauni Jansewa Express was hit by the 5224 Gwalior-Barauni Mail from behind near Chhapra Railway Station in Bihar today. The accident occurred at 8.15 a.m. between Kopa Samhota and Teknewas Stations on Gorakhpur-Chhapra Section of Varanasi Division under North-Eastern Railway. According to the details reaching Headquarters, the Jansewa Express was stationary at the level crossing near Kopa Samhota Station due to chain pulling and the Gwalior-Barauni Mail dashed from behind. Accident Relief Trains from Chhapra and Varanasi have reached the accident site and relief and rescue operation is continuing in full swing. The injured have been admitted in Civil Hospital in Chhapra. Three persons have received grievous injuries. . Ex-gratia payment to the victims is being arranged. General Manager North Eastern Railway, DRM, Varanasi Division , Senior Railway Officials and Civil officials have also reached the accident site to co-ordinate the relief and rescue operation

A number of help lines and inquiry booths have been set up at various stations of UP, Bihar , Punjab and Madhya Pradesh. They include Sitapur, Lucknow ,Gonda, Basti Gorakhpur, Chhapra, Siwan, Sonepur, Samastipur, Hazipur, Muzaffarpur, Barauni, New Delhi, Amritsar, Jalandhar City, Jalandhar Cant., Ludhiana, Beas, Phagwara, Gwalior.

The Railway Authorities have suspended six railway employees. They include Asstt.Mechanical Engineer (Power) of Varanasi Division; Area Officer, Chhpra; Loco Inspector, Chhapra; Driver , Asstt. Driver and Guard of Gwalior-Barauni Mail.
