APPOINTMENT OF NOTARIES
The Centre has relaxed the eligibility
criteria for appontment as Notary for legal practitioners belonging
to Sheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes and
Women. For this, Rule 3 of the Notaries Rules, 1956, has been amended.
The Centre has also revised the rates of fees
for notarial works under Rule 10 of the Notaries Rules.
Besides, Form I & II(Rule-4(2) ) of the impugned
Rules has been amended requiring information about caste status
to ensure due representation of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes,
Other Backward Classes and Women while appointing Notaries.
The Government has also fixed the quota of the
number of notaries to be appointed by the State Government and
the Central Government in each State and Union Territory by amending
the Notaries Rules.
The quota of the number of notaries to be appointed
by the National Capital Territory Government of Delhi and the
Central Government has been revised from 450 to 650 out of which
both the Governments would share 325 each.
