PRESS NOTE
The poll for the Presidential Election
2002 will take place on Monday July 15, 2002. The elected Members
of the two Houses of Parliament and the elected Members of State
Legislative Assemblies form the electoral college for the election.
Members of Parliament will exercise
their vote in Parliament House, New Delhi. A Member of Parliament
may, however, vote in a State Capital if he has previously obtained
the permission of the Election Commission. Members of Legislative
Assemblies will vote in their respective State Capitals at the
places notified by the Commission in this behalf. A Member of
a State Legislative Assembly who has previously obtained the permission
of the Election Commission, may, however, vote in Parliament House,
New Delhi.
The polling arrangements in Parliament
House are being made by the Returning Officer, Shri R C Tripathi,
Secretary-General, Rajya Sabha. The polling will commence at 10.00
a.m. on Monday, the 15th July, 2002 and close at 5.00
p.m. on that date. The contesting candidates are Shri Abdul Kalam
and Smt. Lakshmi Sahagal.
