BSL ACHIEVES
14 PER CENT GROWTH
Despite the
sluggish steel market, Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) of the Steel Authority
of India Ltd. (SAIL) during the year 2001-02, has achieved 14
per cent growth in its HR products by regulating production as
per market demand. It has achieved record production in various
operational areas during the year. The Plant has achieved a growth
of 8 per cent in exports compared to the last fiscal. HR plates
and sheets despatch has registered improvement by 11 per cent
and 36 per cent respectively. The plant has given special attention
for despatch of high value special steels, which accounted for
20 per cent of the total saleable steel despatches. The overall
growth in saleable steel despatches for home sales exceeded the
sales of the previous year by 10 per cent.
The plant has also
achieved lowest ever specific energy consumption during the year,
reduction by 1 per cent to 7.96 Gcal/tcs. It has also improved
converter lining life at SMS-II of 1461 heats, previous best being
1164 heats. The plant has produced high strength corrosion resistant
steel, API-5Lx65 grade steel and Ti-bearing LPG quality steel
for better formability. For the first time the rolling of thinner
and thicker gauges of specific measurements were introduced.
The plant achieved
impressive savings by undertaking inhouse maintenance of major
equipments. The reclamation of unutilised equipments also generated
savings. All the units in the plant made significant achievements
in this area.
