VICE PRESIDENT TO RELEASE BOOK ON JP

The Vice President Shri Krishna Kant will release the biography of Loknayak Jayprakash Narayan at a function here tomorrow. Brought out by Publications Division of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the book is a tribute to the great leader in his birth centenary year. The author, Shri Shailendra Nath Shrivastava, is a former Member of Parliament and was closely associated with JP’s movement. The Home Minister, Shri Lal Krishna Advani will preside over the function. The Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Smt. Sushma Swaraj and the Minister of State Shri Ramesh Bais will be the guests of honour on the occasion.

It is almost 30 years since the country woke up to Jayprakash Narayan’s call for ‘Total Revolution’. "Sampoorna Kranti ab nara hai, Bhavi itihaas hamara hai"; during the mid-seventies, this slogan drew millions out on the streets rallying behind the ‘Loknayak’ in what is also known as our second war for independence. JP’s life was a life of crusades. First it was the freedom movement – he was one of the leading lights of the Quit India Movement – then came a long spell of his association with movements like ‘Bhoodan’ and ‘Sarvodaya’ and finally the tumultuous phase of the nineteen seventies which was a testing time for the Indian democracy.

This book gives an insight into the various phases of this crusade. It is part of Publications Division’s Builders of Modern India Series, which includes biographies of important Indian leaders, who have contributed to the building of modern India. Publications Division brings to its discerning readers a rich collection of well-researched and low priced books on subjects ranging from history to art and culture, biographies, science, flora and fauna, speeches of Prime Ministers and Presidents, reference books like India and children’s literature. The Division also brings out journals like Yojana, Kurukshetra, Employment News, Ajkal and Bal Bharati. Recently the Division has also forayed into production of CDs, the first being a multi-media CD on Mahatma Gandhi based on his collected works. What sets Publications Division apart from other players in the field is the nature and subject of its titles-selected with the underlying objective of preserving national heritage and disseminating information on issues of national importance. Its books are well-researched, authentic and excellent reference materials at affordable prices.
