BOKARO INHOUSE EFFORTS SAVES RS.8 CRORE A YEAR

The Sinter plant collective of Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) of the Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) have recently developed and fabricated a magnetic separator for eliminating metallic pieces in crushed LD slag, which enables the plant to save Rs.8 crore a year. The separator will not only eliminate delays occurring due to the fixed magnetic metal separation system used earlier, it will also increase the percentage of flux material and ore fines in sinter.

The plant collective have commissioned an inhouse new absorber vessel assembly in place of the worn-out equipment in the Cold Rolled Mill (CRM) which have saved valuable time and cost. They have also successfully installed a tundish car in the continuous Casting Shop for the first time in a record time of 4 months. The cost of a new tundish car is around Rs. 1 crore. An Austrian Company which had supplied this highly sophisticated piece of equipment, had taken 2 years to repair it on an earlier occasion.
