TASKFORCE ON JPRGY INVITES SUGGESTIONS FROM EXPERTS
The taskforce on Jai Prakash Rozgar Gaurantee
Yojana (JPRGY) has decided to invite suggestions from experts
from all over the country in order to formulate foolproof guidelines
for the new scheme. The third meeting of the taskforce on JPRGY
was held here under the chairmanship of the Union Minister for
Rural Development Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu. The taskforce unanimously
decided that it is necessary to invite a wide range of suggestions
from experts to ensure the most effective formulation and implementation
of the new scheme. In this context, the taskforce had invited
Shri Digvijay Singh, the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh as a
special invitee.
Shri Digvijay Singh emphasized on the need
of targeting the programme to most distressed areas only, saying
that resources turn out inadequate if not targeted. He said the
targeting could be done on basis of food security, vulnerability
to droughts, assetlessness, proportion of tribes, forest fringe,
scheduled castes, etc. He said the objective of the programme
should be to provide 150 days guaranteed employment to the most
needy; and that wage employment should be supplemented by self
employment. Stress should be on arresting the migration of labour
from rural areas to urban areas hesaid. He gave thrust on strengthening
of Self-help Groups (SHGs) and Panchayats and their inclusion
in the implementation of the programme.
In the earlier meeting of the taskforce,
Sushree Uma Bharati, Sport and Youth Affairs Minister, offered
full human resource support from the National Reconstruction Corps
(NRC) and Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), for better implementation of
the scheme.
Shri Ananth Kumar, Minister for Urban Development
and Poverty Alleviation, Shri Karia Munda, the Minister for Rural,
Agro Industries and Shri Babasaheb Vikhe Patil, Minister of State
for Finance participated in the meeting. Other members of the
taskforce and senior officials from various Ministries were also
present in the meeting.
