YOUNG SCIENTISTS OF DRDO
Rajya Sabha
The trend of young
scientists moving out of Defence Research & Development Organisation
(DRDO) has partially slowed down. Earlier, there was a tendency
for scientists to move out of DRDO to work in Information Technology
(IT) based industries here and abroad owing to much more attractive
pay and incentive packages. The number of scientists held in year
2000 were 5531 out of which 171 resigned. In 2001, the number
of resignations lessened to 134 out of 5433. This year out of
5810 only 26 resigned till date.
After the
Fifth Central Pay Commission, two additional increments and Professional
Update Allowance have been given to the scientists as incentives.
However, an incentive package to attract and retain young talent
is pending with the Government.

was given by the Defence Minister Shri George Fernandes in a written
reply to Shri PK Maheshwari in Rajya Sabha today.
