SHATRUGHAN
SINHA RELEASES HOSPITAL MANUAL- 2002
Union Minister for Health
& Family Welfare, Shri Shatrughan Sinha has said that patient
care is a complex process in hospital management, which includes
the involvement of doctors as well as coordination of hospital
functionaries for better health care. The Minister said this while
releasing two books on Hospital Waste Management& its Monitoring
and Hospital Manual – 2002 – Dte.G.H.S, here today.
The Minister said the
book Hospital Waste Management & its Monitoring written by
Dr. Madhuri Sharma intends to impart adequate knowledge and awareness
about health hazards of hospital waste, legal frame work and the
latest methodologies for disposal of hospital waste in simple
and clear terms. It would be of immense value as a reference material
for those connected with the hospital management in government
and non-government sectors.
In recent times, the
management of hospital waste has emerged as a prime area of concern.
The ruling of the Supreme Court and the notification of Biomedical
Waste (Management & Handling) Rules 1998 made it mandatory
for the health care establishments to dispose of hospital waste
in a manner as not to be detrimental to the environment.
The Hospital Manual is
a compendium on hospital services, management functions, job responsibilities,
standard operating procedures and the legal framework. A review
of the hospital manual was felt necessary keeping in view the
advancement that have taken place in the medical sciences, the
super-specialities that have come to existence and the paradigm
shift in approach to patient care due to increasing awareness
in expectations and right of patients towards hospital. The review
has been done by Directorate General of Health Services and includes
recent advances in medical sciences. The function was attended
by Secretary Health, Secretary Family Welfare, DG Health Services
and other dignitaries.
