SCHEME FOR THE WELFARE OF DESTITUTE CHILDREN

The Ministry of Social Justice
and Empowerment is implementing a scheme ‘An Integrated Programme
for Street Children’ for the welfare of destitute children. Under
this scheme, financial assistance is provided to voluntary organizations
for providing shelter, nutrition, health care, education, vocational
training and recreational facilities to street children. The scheme
seeks to protect them against abuse and exploitation. The target
group of this programme is a child without home and family ties.
Under this scheme, financial assistance up to 90% of the cost
of the project is provided to only voluntary organizations.
This was stated by Shri S.B. Mookherjee,
Minister of State of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment
in answer to a Question from the Hon’ble Member, Prof. M. Sankaralingam
in Rajya Sabha today.
