GOLDEN QUADRILATERAL AND EXPRESS HIGHWAYS


Lok Sabha

Roads connecting four metropolitan cities of Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai are being widened to 4/6 lane under the Golden Quadrilateral (GQ) project being implemented by National Highways Authority of India. The present status of the project is as under :-

Total Length - 5846 km

Completed works - 1159 km

Contracts awarded - 4603 km

Balance for award - 84 km

There is one Expressway viz., Ahmadabad-Vadodara Expressway, which is part of GQ Project. The details are as below :-

An amount of Rs.5510.66 crore has been spent upto 30.6.2002 on GQ Project, which includes Rs.198.42 crore on Ahmadabad-Vadodara Expressway. The estimated cost of GQ Project is Rs.25050 crore, including Rs.766.52 crore for Ahamadabad-Vadodara Expressway.

There is no proposal of Salem-Cochin Express Highway. However, 4-laning of Salem-Cochin section of National Highway-47 is being taken up as a spur to North-South corridor of National Highway Development Project (NHDP).

Present status of the section is as under :-

(i) Km 0 (Salem) to Km.316 - Detailed project preparation being taken up

(ii) Km.316 to Km.332 - In progress

(iii) Km.332 to Km.349 (Cochin) - Already 4 laned.
