ARMY UNDERTAKES FLOOD RELIEF OPERATION


In view of the grim flood situation in Bihar and Assam assistance of the Army has been requisitioned by the respective state Governments for providing relief to the flood victims.

In Bihar, one column of troops has already been deployed in Madhubani district while second column has been flown in from Palam. The columns include Engineers with rescue boats and medical teams . The troops have started the rescue operations in Madhubani area.

In Assam, one column each has been operating in Lahorighat and Kamrup districts of the state, while one more column has been despatched to Morigaon. The rescue operations have been going on over last two days. 3000 people have been evacuated in Lahorighat. Medical aid has been provided to hundreds of needy people. About 150 affected people have been evacuated in Kamrup district. Rations have also been distributed to the needy population by the troops.

Relief operations by the Army are likely to continue till the flood situation improves in the regions.
