NO TIME FRAME FOR DISPOSAL BY COMMISSIONS OF INQUIRY

LOK SABHA

At present , there is no proposal to fix time frame for commissions appointed under the Commission of Inquiry Act, 1952 under consideration of the Government. However, Section 3(1) of the Act empowers the Central Government or the State Government, as the case may be, to prescribe time limit keeping in view the nature of the subject matter of inquiry.

Time limit for submission of the report by Commissions of Inquiry is indicated in the appointment order of such commissions. However, if need arises, the time limit of the commission is extended in the public interest by the concerned administrative Ministry/Department.

This information was given by the Union Minister of Law and Justice Shri K. Jana Krishnamurthi in a written reply to a question from Shri Ram Mohan Gadde and Dr. M.V.V.S. Murthi in the Lok Sabha today.
