ICAR AWARDS PRESENTED
The Union Agriculture Minister Shri Ajit Singh gave away the
Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Awards to individual
Scientists and Institutions for outstanding performance in the
field of Agriculture. The three Sardar Patel outstanding institution
awards were given to Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI)
Izatnagar, University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore and
Project directorate on Animal Disease Monitoring and Surveillance,
Bangalore.
The newly instituted, Chaudhary Devi Lal Outstanding All India
Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) award was jointly given to
Indian Institute of Soil Sciences, Bhopal and Directorate of Rice
Research, Hyderabad for their coordinated research on micro-nutrients
in soil and plants and rice improvement program respectively.
Besides, Shri Ajit Singh also gave away awards for research in
tribal areas, dry land areas, multi-discipline research in agriculture
and allied sciences.
Two women Scientists, Dr. Ravinder Kaur of Indian Agricultural
Research Institute, Pusa, New Delhi and Dr. Usha R. Mehra of IVRI
received the Panjabrao Deshmukh Woman Agricultural Scientists
award for their contribution in agriculture research.
Chaudhary Charan Singh award for excellence in journalism in
agricultural research and development was given to Shri Surinder
Sud. Shri Sud has the distinction of serving the cause of Indian
agriculture through reporting in newspaper and journals for more
than 29 years.
While Shri Bahadur Singh Verma of Solan, Himachal Pradesh recived
the Jagajivan Ram Kishan Purashkar, Shri Haricharan Das of Jugendra
Nagar, Agartala, Tripura got the N.G.Ranga Farmer Award for diversified
Agriculture.
