SAIL STREAMLINES ITS IT POLICY

The Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL), the major public sector undertaking of the Steel Ministry has recently set up a high-level committee comprising Directors and Senior Executive Directors to spearhead an Enterprise Resource Planning initiative across the organisation. It has formalized its Information Technology (IT) Policy and IT Security Policy with the objective of bringing about uniformity in the areas of automation and computerization.

The IT Policy lists out the provisions of a centralised and uniform setup, licensing policy, standardization and inter-comparability of applications for IT related functions. The need for a uniform system was felt due to the difficulties arising out of different modules of hardware and software technologies being used in the various SAIL units.
