GOVERNMENT DIRECTS IGL TO UNDERTAKE MEASURES FOR AUGMENTING CNG SUPPLY IN DELHI

Shri B.K. Chaturvedi, Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas today reviewed the status of CNG supply in Delhi and expressed serious concern at the long queues at different CNG stations. At a High Level Meeting, Shri Chaturvedi directed the officers of Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) to undertake immediate measures to augment the supply of CNG in a time bound manner. Taking a look at the working of 56 High Power Compressors, the Secretary directed that online stations at Ashram Chowk, Sarai Kalekhan and I.P. Estate should be made fully operational before 9th July, 2002.

During the review, it was decided that the two daughter stations converted to online stations should be made operational by providing energy through the diesel generator sets. These stations are located on Gurgaon Road and Jessoph Tito Marg (Jangpura) IGL was also advised that the capacity of CNG cascade filling which at present is 150 LCV/day should be raised to a minimum of 250. For this purpose, the Mother Station in various DTC Depots should be utilised. Petroleum Secretary further directed that dedicated cascade filling stations should be set up by 31st July 2002. These measures, he observed, would create 32,000 kg/per day additional CNG dispensing capacity which will increase the present per day supply of about 4.6 lakh kg. to about 5 lakh kg. per day.

Further in order to increase the number of CNG stations and also spread the area under CNG supply network, Secretary (Petroleum) directed that the work on 43 identified retail outlets of oil marketing companies for co-locating CNG facilities should be started without any delay. He also emphasised that the work on these stations should be completed within a time bound schedule leaving no scope for time over-run. Presently there are 95 CNG stations in various parts of Delhi.

The meeting was attended by Shri Naresh Narad, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Managing Director IGL and Chairman IGL who happens to be the CMD of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited who was specially invited to attend the Review Meeting.
