STATE GOVTS’ COOPERATION SOUGHT
FOR TIMELY COMPLITION OF 3RD CENSUS OF SSI
The launching
of the Third Census of Small Scale Industries was formally announced
at the Conference of State Secretaries and Directors of Industries,
here today. The Conference, held under the chairmanship of Shri
Ashok Pradhan, Secretary, SSI & ARI, discussed in detail the
Action Plan drawn out for conducting the Census. Speaking on the
occasion, Shri Pradhan emphasized the need for cooperation from
State Governments so as to bring out the results of the 3rd
Census within a given time frame. He said that the Centre will
provide the material and funds for execution of data collection
work and the States have to spare their human resources for this
work.
The 3rd
Census would cover the registered as well as unregistered units.
The registered units will be completely enumerated and unregistered
units will be covered through a Sample Survey. The other feature
of this Census is that it would focus on the measurement of extent
of sickness in SSI. This Census will also conduct survey on various
matters related to SSI sector like data on production, output,
employment, exports, source and use of power etc. As per Action
Plan, the time frame set up for data enumeration is November,
2002 and March 2002 for releasing complete results.
