The All-India Consumer
Price Index for Agricultural and Rural Labourers (Base 1986-87
= 100) increased during November, 2002 by one point and two points
respectively to stand at 323 for Agricultural Labourers and 326
for Rural Labourers.
In case of Agricultural
Labourers, 9 states reflected an increase in indices between 1
to 13 points, and seven States showed decrease between 1 to 4
points while the indices in four States remained constant.
In the case of Rural
Labourers, 8 states reflected increase in indices between 1 to
12 points and seven States showed decrease in indices ranging
from 1 to 3 points while the indices remained constant in five
states.
Tamil Nadu in respect
of both Agricultural and Rural Labourers experienced sharpest
increase of 13 and 12 points respectively On the other hand, West
Bengal recorded the maximum decrease of four points in case of
Agricultural Labourers whereas in respect of Rural Labourers Meghalaya,
Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal recorded a maximum decrease of 3
points each.
Andhara Pradesh remained
at the top of the index table both for Agricultural and Rural
Labourers with 345 points each. Bihar (including Jharkhand) and
Orissa remained at the bottom of the index with 300 points each
for Agricultural Labourers while for Rural Labourers Orissa was
at the bottom with 300 points.
Point to point rate
of inflation based on CPI-AL increased from 2.88 % in October,
2002 to 3.19% in November, 2002. The inflation rate for the CPI-RL
also decreased from 2.86% in October, 2002 to 3.16% during November,
2002. Respective rates of inflation during November, 2001 were
2.29% and 2.60%.
