MMTC GETS TOP EXPORT AWARD


Exports under CAPEXIL have improved its share of Indian exports from 7.37% to 7.62% during 2001-02. It has registered an impressive export growth of 16% in dollar terms during April - October 2002 compared to the same period the previous year. Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Minister of State for Commerce & Industry, informed this while giving away the export awards here last evening. Shri Rudy announced that CAPEXIL was mooting warehouse services for products of rubber and stone and also office interfaces modeled on call centers at strategic locations in focus markets starting with the United States under the Market Access Initiative scheme of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry. Market Research on Rubber manufactured products and Electronic and Traditional Publishing is already underway in the US and similar studies are going to be carried out on Ceramic Products and products of stone, he added. Shri M.F. Vohra, Chairman, CAPEXIL was present in the function along with representatives of trade & industry.

Shri Rudy indicated that the upcoming North East Chapter of CAPEXIL would help the exporters from that region to realise their true potential. The Council is conducting a study for the initiation and enhancement of exports of pottery ware from the Khurja area for the benefit of the artisan entrepreneurs of U.P., the Minister said. Lauding the role of the Council as one of the most vibrant of the export promotion councils, he said it has acted as a catalyst for development of export of chemical based and allied products. Shri Rudy congratulated all the export award winners and assured that the government would continue to extend all help in their endeavour. Shri S.D. Kapoor, Chairman & Managing Director of MMTC, received the top export award on this occasion.

CAPEXIL has improved its share of Indian Exports from 7.37% during the previous fiscal to 7.62% during 2001-02. The export in the non- mineral sector under CAPEXIL was US $ 1443.8 million with 1.25% growth while mineral sector export was US $ 1866 million with 2.1% growth.
