A two-day workshop
on Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme began here
today. The Minister of State for Statistics & Programme Implementation
and PMO, Shri Vijay Goel presided over the workshop. He told the
members that while in 1998 only 55% of the allocated money was
spent under the scheme, the amount now is touching 76%. This figure
itself shows the worthiness of the scheme.
Earlier inaugurating
the workshop, the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Shri Pramod
Mahajan said that MPs have a power in the form of MPLADS fund
to reach people. Due to administrative problems some works get
held up. He hoped that the workshop would give the MPs a forum
to discuss their problems and derive ways to get their works completed
smoothly recommended by them.
MPs from 14 States/Union
Territories and Secretaries of nodal department dealing with MPLADS
of these States/UTs participated in today’s workshop. The remaining
21 States/Union Territories’ representatives will be participating
in tomorrow’s session to discuss their problems and suggest amendments
to streamline the procedure under MPLADS.
