RAJYA SABHA
Poverty estimates
of minor states like Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Meghalaya, Mizoram,
Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, Andaman & Nikobar, Lakshadweep,
Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, Pondicherry and Chandigarh
are derived by considering physical contiguity of areas and similarity
of economic profile as indicated by other economic parameters.
Accordingly, poverty ratio of Assam is used for Sikkim, Arunachal
Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland & Triupura;
poverty line of Maharashtra and expenditure distribution of Goa
is used in case of Goa; poverty line of Himachal Pradesh and expenditure
distribution of Jammu & Kashmir to estimate poverty ratio
of Jammu & Kashmir; poverty ratio of Tamil Nadu in case of
Pondicherry and Andaman & Nicobar Islands; urban poverty ratio
of Punjab is used for Chandigarh; poverty line of Maharashtra
and expenditure distribution of Dadra & Nagar Haveli in case
of Dadra & Nagar Haveli; poverty ratio of Goa for Daman &
Diu and poverty ratio of Kerala for Lakshadweep.
It may be noted that
estimate of poverty ratio is done on the basis of methodology
outlined in the recommendations of Lakdawala Committee. But in
certain areas relevant price data is not available and in some
areas sample size of household consumption expenditure survey
is not adequate or it is not available in a series for all the
years under consideration.
