VIZAG STEEL GETS NATIONAL ENERGY CONSERVATION AWARD


Vizag Steel Plant (VSP) of the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), a public sector undertaking of the Steel Ministry has been selected by the Union Ministry of Power for the National Energy Conservation Award 2002 - first prize in the Integrated Steel Plants sector.

Vice-President of India, Shri Bhairon Singh Sekhawat will present the award here on Saturday, 14th December 2002, at Vigyan Bhawan. RINL was awarded a second prize in the year 2001 and a commendation award earlier in the year 2000.

VSP has launched a mass movement for energy conservation at grassroots level right from its inception. The implementation of 114 energy conservation projects by the VSP has helped in saving of Rs.114 crore during the year 2001-02. Improvements in several phases of the monitoring of efficiency parameters, coupled with calorific value of product fuel gases and utilization of by-products by constant interaction with suppliers and consumer departments have helped in achieving the target.
