FOOD CORPORATION OF INDIA TO CONTINUE AS PUBLIC
UTILITY SERVICE FOR ANOTHER SIX MONTHS
The Food Corporation
of India, FCI, has been declared a public utility service under
the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 for another six months with
effect from December 10, 2002. The FCI continues to be a public
utility service for more than two years since December 10, 1999.
The employees in
this industry, as a result, would among other things be required
to give notice to their employer six weeks in advance of proceeding
on strike so that conciliatory proceedings could be started. During
the conciliatory proceedings and seven days after their completion,
the employees cannot go on strike.
