Steel Authority of
India Ltd. (SAIL) is currently engaged in divestment of its non-core
units as part of its financial and business restructuring. The
divestment process for Oxygen Plant-II at Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP),
Rourkela Fertiliser Plant and Salem Steel Plant (SSP) is at an
advanced stage. The bids for SSP and Oxygen Plant-II are expected
in January, 2003, whereas the bid for Rourkela Fertilizer Plant
is under analysis. The final decision on each of these units will
be taken after receipt of bids and their acceptance by SAIL Board.
The divestment
process for Alloy Steel Plant (ASP), Durgapur and Visvesvaraya
Irona nd Steel Plant (VISP), Bhadravati have been stopped now
due to lack of response from the market.

was given by the Minister for Steel Shri Braja Kishore Tripathy
in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
