DR. JOSHI INVITED TO ADDRESS
EUROPEAN RESEARCH CONGRESS
The
European Commission has invited the Minister for Human Resource
Development and Science and Technology Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi
to deliver a special address on technology and fundamental science
at its conference ‘European Research 2002’, to be held in Brussels
in November. This is probably the first time that a minister from
outside the European Union is being invited to deliver such a
special address. This is in recognition of India’s advancements
in the scientific and technological fields as well as Dr. Joshi’s
commitment to the development of science. It is note-worthy that
Dr. Joshi would speak at the opening session.
The
European Research Conference is expected to be attended by over
6000 high-level participants including ministers, top scientists
and others. The Prime Ministers of Belgium as well as Spain would
also be addressing the meeting.
The
three-day conference will mark the launch of the European Union’s
6th framework programme for research covering the period
2002 to 2006. It will serve as a platform for scientific debate
and exchange of ideas. The sessions will cover-cross cutting issues
of the European research areas, such as Human Resources and Mobility,
Patenting and Intellectual Property Rights etc.
Along
with the conference, a major exhibition covering European Union
sponsored research projects will be on display.
