RADIO AND TV HAVE VITAL ROLE IN CHANGING WORLD SCENARIO: BAIS

The Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Shri Ramesh Bais said that Akashwani and Doordarshan are playing a significant role in preserving the Indian culture, sensitivities and conventions. The Minister while addressing the 5th National Convention of AIR and DD Administration Staff association here today, said that there are a number of satellite channels and most of them are having entertainment based programmes like family serials, film songs etc. In such a fast changing scenario, AIR and DD present social thinking and ideology through its meaningful and innovative programmes besides entertaining or educating the people. By spreading the awareness about the national integrity, development policies, in fact, Radio and Television are acting as a catalyst for country’s development, said the Minister.

The Minister urged the staff of AIR and Doordarshan to take up the challenges thrown up by the proliferation of numerous foreign and national channels, which are attacking our culture by propagating alien cultural values. Our cultural heritage, which is five thousand years old is our identity and any messing up with this identity would lead to our fall, he said. He said that in the present era of Information Technology, AIR and DD should not lack behind in adopting and working with the latest technology.

The Minister assured the Administrative Staff of AIR and Doordarshan that he would look into their problems sympathetically.
