RAJIV GANDHI MANAV SEWA AWARD 2001 ANNOUNCED
The Rajiv Gandhi Manav Sewa award
for the year 2001, has been announced. Shri Mohanlal Jain, Founder
of Anuvrat Bharati, Rajasthan – has been selected for the award
which carries a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh and a citation. The Award
for the year 2001 will be presented shortly to Shri Mohanlal Jain
in a function to be held in New Delhi.
Shri Mohanlal Jain has been involved
in social welfare activities like Harijan Seva, Children’s education,
campaign against dowry, Parda Pratha, child marriage, alcoholism
etc. He founded the first educational institution, Bapa Seva Sadan
for Harijan children. He has established several other institutions
in the last 50 years, some of which are Bal Mandir, Balika Vidyalaya,
Gyan Mandir, Bal Badi and Bhartiya Sanskar Samiti etc.
The Department of Women & Child
Development, Ministry of Human Resource Development instituted
this award on 20th August, 1994, the 50th
Birth Anniversary of the Late Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi. The
award is conferred on an individual for outstanding contribution
towards upliftment of children.
