PRELIMINARY ENQUIRY REPORT OF BAGH EXPRESS-JEEP COLLISION NEAR BARAUNI STATION RELEASED


The preliminary inquiry report pertaining to the collision of 3020 Dn. Bagh Express train with Mahindra Jeep at Manned Level Crossing near Barauni Station Section of Barauni-Samastipur Double Line BG section of Sonpur Division of North Eastern Railway has been released. The accident took place on 23.5.2002 at about 00.40 hrs.

Shri Bhupender Singh Commissioner of Railway Safety, North Eastern Circle, Lucknow held a statutory inquiry into the collision on 25th and 26th May 2002.

According to the provisional findings of the Commissioner, the accident occurred due to "failure of railway staff".

As a result of this Railway accident, 5 persons died, two sustained grievous injuries and one simple injury, all the fatalities were the occupant of the Mahindra Jeep. No Train passengers were killed grievously injured or sustained simple injury.
