STAINLESS STEEL PRODUCTION SHOWS GROWTH

LOK SABHA

Production of stainless steel in the country during the year 2001-2002 was 7.6 lakh tonnes against 7.05 lakh tonnes during 2000-2001 and 6.12 lakh tonnes in 1999-2000. Availability of stainless steel is sufficient to cater to the requirements of the market.

Government is taking several steps to raise the consumption level of stainless steel in the country in association with Indian Stainless Steel Development Association. New application areas like automobile, LPG gas cylinders, panelling for buildings, railway wagons and coaches etc. are being propagated to increase consumption of stainless steel.

This information was given by the Ministry of Steel, Shri B.K. Tripathy in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
