STAINLESS STEEL PRODUCTION SHOWS GROWTH

Production of stainless steel in
the country during the year 2001-2002 was 7.6 lakh tonnes against
7.05 lakh tonnes during 2000-2001 and 6.12 lakh tonnes in 1999-2000.
Availability of stainless steel is sufficient to cater to the
requirements of the market.
Government is taking several steps
to raise the consumption level of stainless steel in the country
in association with Indian Stainless Steel Development Association.
New application areas like automobile, LPG gas cylinders, panelling
for buildings, railway wagons and coaches etc. are being propagated
to increase consumption of stainless steel.
