As per extant policy of the Government,
erection of check-posts/barriers on National Highways within the
‘right of way’ is not permitted. However, the State Governments
may erect tax collection barriers outside the ‘right of way’ on
National Highways, with prior permission of the Central Government.
The matter for removal
of such check-posts/barriers falling within the ‘right of way’
on National Highways has been taken up at various levels including
Chief Ministers of the concerned States.
This information was given by the
Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Road Transport and
Highways, Major General (Retd.) B.C. Khanduri in reply to a question
of Shri Vilas Muttemwar in Lok Sabha yesterday.
