BOOSTING UP STEEL CONSUMPTION IN THE COUNTRY
RAJYA SABHA
The annual growth rate
of steel consumption has been below the expected level in the
last couple of years. Therefore, there has been mis- match between
demand and supply with supply exceeding demand in certain categories
of products. The Government is taking many steps to raise consumption
level of steel in the country that include: Constitution of a
National Campaign Committee to promote steel consumption through
development of markets especially in the rural areas, encouraging
usage of steel in new application areas such as grain storage
systems, crash barriers in highways and express ways, providing
financial support to R&D ventures in iron and steel sector
to reduce production cost and organizing seminars for dissemination
of knowledge on the use of steel.
This information was
given by the Minister for Steel Shri B.K.Tripathy in a written
reply in the Rajya Sabha today.
