DISPOSAL OF CASES BY COMPANY LAW BOARD
The Company Law Board
(CLB) is proposed to be replaced by National Company Law Tribunal
(NCLT) as envisaged in the Companies (Amendment) Bill, 2001. In
view of this, no new members of the CLB are being appointed. As
a result, the CLB has only three members against sanctioned strength
of nine members and as against four members available last year.
The
CLB disposed of 24,053 cases out of a total of 34,984 cases considered
during 2000-2001. During 2001-2002, however, the disposal of cases
by CLB declined to 8475 out of a total of 19,118 cases considered.
The CLB, set up in
1991, has headquarters in Delhi and additional principal bench
in Chennai. Besides, CLB has regional benches at Delhi, Mumbai,
Kolkata and Chennai.
