CENTRE FOR CORPORATE EXCELLENCE

The Department of Company Affairs (DCA) has planned to set up a Centre for Corporate Excellence to ensure better corporate governance. A token sum of rupees one crore has been earmarked for the proposed Centre during 2002-2003.

The proposed Centre for Corporate Excellence would have three broad functions, such as, research and studies, education, promotion and development and accreditation and awards with respect to matters with a bearing on corporate governance and excellence. The role of the Centre would be mainly to serve as a knowledge portal and repository in the field of corporate governance and excellence.

The Centre for Corporate Excellence would be autonomous and self-sustainable. The Centre would require substantial funds in the form of corpus to enable it to function in a self-sustainable manner. The Government would make a substantial contribution to the corpus.

The DCA has received requests from a few States and from certain institutes for setting up such a Centre. The precise location of the proposed Centre is still to be decided. Discussions are underway in this regard.
