INTENSIVE RECRUITMENT DRIVE BY
IAF IN J & K
The Indian Air Force
(IAF) has taken up an intensive recruitment drive in Jammu and
Kashmir to ensure that eligible youth get adequate opportunity
to join the ranks of the elite service. The State government is
fully cooperating in its endeavour. Recruitment rallies have been
planned at Srinagar, Jammu, Udhampur, Kargil and Leh. While the
rally in Srinagar is being held between July 10-13, 2003, those
at Leh and Kargil have been planned in the first half of August
2003. Rallies at Jammu and Udhampur will now be held later and
not this month as planned earlier because of the State government’s
pre-occupation with the Amarnath Yatra.
IAF has about
360 airmen on its strength from Jammu and Kashmir. Enrolment in
the last three years has shown an upward trend due to the efforts
made by the recruitment agencies. Between 2000-02, four rallies
were conducted in the Kashmir valley. One rally each was held
in Jammu and Leh during this period.
Briefing media
persons in Srinagar today, Air Vice Marshal, F. H. Major from
the IAF headquartes in New Delhi said the selection process for
recruitment into the IAF is completely transparent, merit-based
and well insulated from any extraneous influences. Meritorious
candidates of high calibre are automatically called for enrolment.
Air Vice Marshal Major said the IAF inducts about 7000 trainees
all over the country every year. Candidates are selected in every
State. Aspirants hailing from remote, far-flung and the border
areas are given proper opportunities. (PIB Special Services)
