COMMISSION'S 2ND VISIT TO RAJASTHAN
COMMISSION
TO MEET AND DISCUSS WITH GOVERNOR, CM AND TOP OFFICIALS OF THE
STATE
Scheduled areas
and Scheduled Tribe Commission headed by Chairman, Shri Dileep
Singh Bhuria has proposed to visit Baran District of Rajasthan
and Jaipur to have a first hand study of the socio-economic conditions
of the Saharia Primitive Tribal Group (PTG) and enforcement of
the protective and ameliorate safeguards for them. The Commission
has already undertaken tours in the border districts of Barmer,
Jaisalmer and Jodhpur to study the socio-economic conditions of
scattered tribal population living in the border areas during
February, 2003.
The Commission has
also visited the Scheduled Areas of Southern Rajasthan consisting
of the Districts of Udaipur, Sirohi, Dungarpur, Banaswara and
Pali and had interaction with the tribals, non-official agencies,
the district level officers and officers of the Commissioner,
Tribal Area Development Department at Udaipur from 27th
to 31st may, 2003. After interacting with district
level officers and NGOs, the Commission propose to meet the Chief
Secretary and other State level officers of the State Government
on 4th July, 2003 and call on the Chief Minister and
Governor on 5th July, 2003.
The Commission has
since sent Questionnaires to the State Government/UT Administrations
having the tribal population, Central Ministries/Departments as
well as voluntary agencies working for the welfare and development
of Scheduled Tribes.
The Government of
India has set up the Scheduled Areas and Scheduled Tribes Commission
under Article 339(1) of the Constitution to look into the constitutional
safeguards provided for the STs with special reference to the
5th and 6th Scheduled of the Constitution
and submit a report to the President on the working of these safeguards
and give an outline to the vision for the future and formulate
a viable comprehensive tribal policy.
