Shri Rajiv Pratap
Rudy, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, has asked
Indian IT industry to move up the value chain from being software
solution providers to manufacturing packaged products with strategic
international links to emerging global markets. Speaking at
the valedictory session of INDIASOFT 2003 which is being organised
by the Electronic & Computer Software Export Promotion Council
(ESC), here today, Shri Rudy emphasised the need to upgrade
the skills in marketing for the sustainable growth of the IT
industry. Shri Dipak Puri, Chairman, ESC, was present at the
occasion along with members of trade and industry.
During his address,
Shri Rudy said that Indians had been playing a crucial role
in the transformation of Indian economy from industrial paradigm
to knowledge-based information revolution and said that IT software
and services exports from India could play an important role
in increasing India’s share in the world trade to 1% by 2007.
Inherent strengths of the IT sector is fairly reflected in its
achievements even in the times of economic slowdown in major
markets, the Minister said. "The global economic environment
is becoming highly competitive and new competitors are emerging.
It is high time for us to move up the value chain and have a
broader vision for finding new business opportunities in global
market", he said.
Shri Rudy assured
the exporting community that the government was fully committed
and geared up to improve the infrastructure and creating a conducive
environment for business. He hoped that the goal of software
and services exports of US $ 50 billion by 2008 could be achieved
with the ever-growing improvement in satellite communication
system. Shri Rudy commended ESC for organising INDIASOFT 2003
and said that it would prove useful for devising strategies
by both industry and the government.
