An Agri Export
Zone (AEZ) has been approved for being set up in Kerala entailing
likely investment of RS. 29.87 crore which includes support
of Rs. 9.98 crore from central government agencies. Five AEZs
have been approved in the State of Maharashtra with a total
likely investment of Rs. 107.31 crore including support of Rs.
30.34 crore from central government agencies. This was indicated
by Shri Arun Jaitley, Minister of Commerce & Industry, said
in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
Till date, the
central government has sanctioned 45 Agri Export Zones (AEZs)
for being set in 19 different states. These AEZs are in different
stages of implementation. Agricultural & Processed Food
Products Development Authority (APEDA) is the nodal agency appointed
by the central government to promote setting up of AEZ and it
interacts with the state governments as required, he said.
