The Ministry of
Rural Development has released Rs.150 lakh to Karnataka as Central
share of assistance for planning & development of watershed
projects for implementation of Desert Development Programme
(DDP) in the two District of Karnataka during 2002-2003.
Out of this amount
Bagalkot district gets Rs.116 lakh and Bellary gets Rs.34.47
lakh for watershed development. The state government has to
release its share to the concerned DRDA within 15 days from
the date of release of the central share.
The development
of wasteland and degraded lands under the programme is expected
to promote employment generation in the rural areas besides
enhancing the participation of people at all stages leading
to sustainable development of land and sharing of the benefits.
