BENEFICIARIES OF ANNAPURNA SCHEME IN ORISSA

Rajya Sabha

The State Government of Orissa has identified 64,800 beneficiaries under the scheme.

The scheme has been transferred to State Plan from 2002-03 along with the National Social Assistance Programme comprising the National Old Age Pension Scheme and the National Family Benefit Scheme. The funds for the transferred schemes are released by the Minister of Finance as Additional Central Assistance (ACA) to the State Plan and the States have the requisite flexibility in the choice and implementation of the schemes. However, foodgrains are allocated by the Government of India to State/UTs at BPL rates on the basis of number of beneficiaries identified and their requirement of foodgrains at the rate of 10 kg per beneficiary/per month under the scheme.

This information was given in Rajya Sabha today by the Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Shri Subhash Maharia in a written reply.
