82 PROPOSALS FOR INCLUSION OF CERTAIN CASTES IN SCHEDULED CASTES
LIST
82 proposals regarding
inclusion of certain castes in the list of Scheduled Castes have
been received from State Governments and Union Territory Administrations
during last three years and till date. Out of them, one proposal
of Government of Punjab has been included in the Constitution
(Scheduled Castes) Order, 1950. Remaining proposals are in different
stages of processing as per approved modalities. 38 of them have
been referred to the Registrar General of India while the remaining
43 proposals have been sent to the National Commission for Scheduled
Castes and Scheduled Tribes. As the proposals are required to
be processed in consultation with various agencies, no time frame
can be assigned for finalizing these proposals.
This information
was given by the Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment
Shri Kailash Meghwal in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
