INCLUSION OF KOCH RAJBONSHIS UNDER
ST CATEGORY
Procedure approved
for deciding claims for inclusion, exclusion and other modifications
in the list of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, the Koch
Rajbonshi community of Assam has not yet become eligible for inclusion
in the list of Scheduled Tribes. No specific time scheduled can
be indicated at this stage, as the matter involves consultations
with the concerned State Government, the Registrar General of
India and the National Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled
Tribes.
This information
was given by the Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Shri Jual
Oram in a written reply to question from Shri Drupad Borgohain
in the Budget Session of Parliament.
