INDIA AND MEXICO
HAVE MANY TRIBAL FEATURES COMMON TO BOTH THE COUNTRIES
THE
MEXICAN DELEGATION EXPRESSED FOR MORE SUCH EXCHANGE OF IDEAS FOR
DESIGNING BETTER TRATEGY FOR TRIBAL DEVELOPMENT
A delegation
led by Dr. Carlos Flores Alcocer, Head of the Presidential Office
for Strategic Planning and Regional Development of the Office
of the President of Mexico met the Tribal Affairs Minister, Shri
Jual Oram here today to discuss issues relating to tribals and
exchange ideas to implement schemes and programmes for the welfare
of tribals. The Government of India’s strategy for development
of Scheduled Tribes was explained to the delegates in detail through
power point presentation. Dr. Carlos explained the policies adopted
by Mexican Government for their indigenous and tribal people.
They appreciated the Tribal Sub-Plan strategy as adopted by Government
of India, where a specific proportion of total budgetary provision
is earmarked for tribal development and welfare. Issues relating
to exploitation of forests produce, land and minerals in the tribal
dominated area was explained to the Mexican delegation. Other
issues like protection of bio-diversity, culture and language
of tribals was also discussed. Many commonality between the countries
where found and both the countries represented by their Ministers
utilised this occasion to enrich their experience. They admitted
that more such exchange of ideas would result in designing better
strategy for the benefit of tribals which constitute 8% of Indian
population of and 10% of Mexican population.

Carlos was accompanied by Dr. Mohammad Reza Azarang Esfandiari,
Head of the Strategic Planning Unit of the Office of the President
of Mexico and H.E. Mr. Julio Faescler Carlisle, Ambassador of
Mexico in India.
