INDIA TO TAKE PART IN COMMONWEALTH LAW MINISTERS' CONFERENCE
The
Union Minister of State for Law, Justice, Coal and Mines, Shri
Ravi Shankar Prasad, accompanied by the Law Secretary, Shri R.L.
Meena left here this morning on an official tour to represent
India in the four day long Conference of Commonwealth Law Ministers
beginning at St. Vincent and the Grenadines at Kingston from November
18 to 21, 2002.
The important subjects to
be discussed in the Conference will be international cooperation
to combat terrorism, Commonwealth cooperation in administration
of criminal justice, modern law on computer and computer related
crime, good governance and human rights.
The Minister will highlight
India’s concerted efforts to fight terrorism including
support against shelter to terrorists in Commonwealth nations.
India will also focus human rights of victims of terrorism.
The other topics to be considered
will cover modernization of the laws of evidence and strategies
for enhancing democracy by eliminating legal barriers to development.
Yet other important matters will relate to freedom of information,
privacy and protection of personal information.
In the area of economic legislation,
the Conference will discuss and approve model law on e-commerce,
model law on competition and model law on e-evidence.
