SHRI MUNI LAL LEADS TRIPARTITE INDIAN DELEGATION TO INTERNATIONAL
LABOUR CONFERENCE OF THE ILO
A 21-member tripartite Indian delegation led
by the Minister of State for Labour and Employment Shri Muni Lall
is participating in the 90th Session of the International
Labour Conference of the ILO at Geneva. The delegation comprises
of one Delegate and seven Advisers each from the Employees’ and
Employers’ sides and a five-member Government Group headed by
the Labour Secretary Dr. P.D. Shenoy. The delegates are Shri K.J.
Thakkar, Vice President of the Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh participating
from the Employees side and Shri I.P. Anand, Member, Council of
Indian Employers, representing Employers side. Shri Muni Lall
and the delegates will present India’s viewpoint on various labour
issues during the plenary discussions.
The annual Conference which opened on June 3,
2002 will meet until 20th June and is expected to draw some 3,000
delegates, including Labour Ministers and leaders of workers'
and employers' organizations from most of the ILO's 175 member
States. Among the major agenda items of this year's Conference
are Decent Work and the Informal Economy, Promotion of Cooperatives
and a discussion on occupational accidents and diseases with a
view to the adoption of a Protocol and a Recommendation. The session
will also discuss the Director-General's Global report on "A Future
Without Child Labour" under the follow-up to the ILO Declaration
on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work.
One of the most important events of the annual
conference would be the election of the Governing Body of the
International Labour Office for a three-year term up to 2005.
At the last election held during the 87th Session,
from India Shri I.P. Anand, Member, Council of Indian Employers,
representing Employers side and Shri N.M. Adyanthaya of the Indian
National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) representing Employees side
were elected to the Governing Body.
