SAHIB SINGH TAKES OVER AS LABOUR MINISTER; SAYS REMOVAL OF DISAFFECTION
AMONG WORKERS WOULD BE HIS PRIORITY
Dr. Sahib Singh Verma,
who took over as Labour Minister here this morning, has said that
removal of disaffection among workers would be his priority. Talking
to the media persons Dr. Verma said that we would need completely
satisfied workers if India has to compete with rest of the world.
He expressed hope that he would succeed in establishing harmonious
industrial relations. Dr. Sahib Singh said that the Prime Minister
Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee and the Dy. Prime Minister Shri L.K.
Advani are equally concerned about it. He said that they have
reposed confidence in him and hoped that he would come up to their
expectations. Asked about the implementation of the Report submitted
recently by the National Labour Commission to the Prime Minister,
Dr. Sahib Singh said "We will have to see how quickly we can act
upon it." The Labour Minister said that curbing corruption and
toning up work culture in the Ministry would be his another priority.
The Labour Secretary Dr. P.D.Shenoy received Dr. Verma on his
arrival at Shram Shakti Bhawan and later briefed him about the
functioning of the Ministry.
Dr. Sahib Singh Varma
was sworn in as the Cabinet Minister by the President yesterday
evening. Born in a farmer’s family at Mundka Village in Delhi
on 15th March 1943, Dr. Sahib Singh began the political
career as an RSS worker. He was elected to Delhi Municipal Corporation
on Janata Party ticket in 1997. He was re-elected in 1983 on BJP
Ticket. Dr. Sahib Singh was made Education & Development Minister
in the Delhi Government in 1993 after winning the Assembly elections.
He became Chief Minister of Delhi in 1996 and continued on this
post for more than two and half years. Dr. Sahib Singh holds a
Doctorate Degree in Library Sciences.
