SMT. SUMITRA MAHAJAN & DR. SANJAY PASWAN ASSUME CHARGE AS MINISTERS OF STATE FOR COMMUNICATIONS&INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY


Smt. Sumitra Mahajan and Dr. Sanjay Paswan took over as Ministers of State for Communications and Information Technology here today. In her opening remarks, Smt. Mahajan said that it would be her endeavour to ensure connectivity to the villages of the country so that they could reap the benefits of the ongoing revolution in the field of IT&Telecom. The Minister also stated that the concept of connectivity today was not just limited to telephones alone. The world today was reaping the benefits of the multi-dimensional uses of the tools of IT&Telecom. If policy initiatives would ensure prolific use of such tools, the stage would be set for every village to be well connected and networked, she added.

Dr. Paswan, while assuming charge, said that it would be his endeavour to tackle the problem of digital divide with the tools of people-friendly technologies in IT&Telecom. The need of the hour, the Minister said was to bring about the synergy between IT, Telecom and Posts to offer value added services to the people. In this era of globalisation, it was extremely important to make the departments globally competitive in products and services, enabling the country to maintain its brand equity as a global investment destination in IT & Telecom.

Senior officials of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Department of Information Technology and the Department of Posts (DoP) who were present on the occasion briefed the Ministers about the broad policy initiatives and programmes.
