EVALUATION OF FUNDS SPENT UNDER MPLANDS

A critical evaluation of funds spent under MPLADS has been made by CAG. The CAG in its report for the period ending March, 2000 shas pointed out certain violation of the guidelines on MPLADS, such as execution of works without recommendation of the concerned MP; sanction of works for commercial/private organisations, irregular expenditure on repair and maintenance works, purchase of stores, etc. Muncipal Corporation Delhi (MCD) has informed that some cases of paving the service lanes in colonies and providing street lights have been taken up under MPLADS. The need for paving of service lanes and providing street lights was examined and approved by the competent authority. Paving of lanes is decided keeping in view the essential requirements like mobility of pedestrians, vehicles, improving hygiene, reducing mosquito breeding etc. Now-a-days water harvesting measures are available which help the return of water to the soil.
