NEED FOR INDUSTRY-INSTITUTION COLLABORATION TO MAKE EDUCATION RELEVANT : DR. KATHIRIA

Minister of State for Human Resource Development, Dr. Vallabhbhai Kathiria today strongly emphasised the need for industry-institution collaboration to make education relevant to the needs of the economy.

The Minister said this while inaugurating the Silver Jubilee Celebrations and All India Inter-College Festival of IITs at the Indian Institute of Technology campus, here today.

The Minister said that in recent years, agencies such as Industrial Liaison Boards have been created in States, industrial representatives are being co-opted on the boards of academic institutions and persons from commerce and industry visit institutes as guest lecturers, but a lot remains to be done. For better coordination between employers and institutions, both must change their traditional mindset and respond to present day needs.

On the issue of highly educated manpower going abroad for employment, Dr. Kathiria said that it should not be taken as ‘brain drain’, but as a sign of ‘brain investment’ made by the country. He reminded of the long Indian tradition of imparting knowledge to the outside world.

The Minister also laid stress on value education for all round development of students. He felt that such education should be imparted at all levels in all types of educational institutions.
